The use of diamonds has been found to be dated as early as 2,500 years ago, where they were used as religious icons in India. Record has also been found that in early human history diamonds were used in drilling bits and engraving tools. One of the traits of diamonds is that nothing can scratch it except for another diamond.
Diamonds are mined from volcanic pipes in central and southern Africa, found deep in the earth where pressure and temperature allow the crystals to form. Sources of this mineral have also been found in Canada, Russia, Brazil, and Australia.
It is only in the 19th century where the popularity of diamonds arose, mainly because of the De Beers Group which initiated a advertising campaign that used the slogan “A Diamond Is Forever” which is now know to be one of the most successful marketing slogans of all time.
It was invented to stop the creation of a secondary market by discouraging women from selling the diamonds they have received and also from buying diamonds which other women have owned. This helped retailers to sell diamonds at high prices without competition from secondary markets. This allowed De Beers to maintain their hold on the diamond trade at a supplier level.

Learning How To Drive
by: Sue and Chuck DeFiore
I grew up in the era of moms and dads teaching us to drive. Yes we had Driver’s Ed, however, Driver’s Ed classes didn’t start until our senior year, by then most of us already knew how to drive. After all, at 16 we all wanted the coveted “learners permit!”
My father taught me to drive. First we went over the basics, starting, stopping, the gauges, how the car worked, what to do on wet, dry roads, turns, and anything else my father could think of to have me prepared for any situation. Things you weren’t going to get from Drivers Ed. My dad shared his many years of experience, and it made me a better driver than most of my female and many of my male counterparts.
Then, he took me into mid-Manhattan and told me to drive. For those of you who don’t know about NY traffic or mid Manhattan, it is absolute chaos. In amongst this chaos is the heralded NY taxi driver. “Believe me”, my father said, “if you can drive with the taxis, you can drive anywhere and will be ready for anything.” And he was right. Plus, in New York you had better know how to parallel park and to do it quickly, because if you took too long someone else was in there. My father actually had a stop watch and we practiced out on Long Island for several weekends and then back to the city we went.

What Kind Of Car Lover Are You?
by: Sue and Chuck DeFiore
Chuck and I got involved in our first car club when we lived in Rochester and had our Corvette. We had a blast. Met a great bunch of people, did a ton of events. In fact I can still remember our first event. It was a car rally and Chuck and I got the second place trophy.
However, like any group, we had cliques. Now, don’t get mad at me for the monikers that are coming. They have been around a long time and I didn’t make them up.
All of the following groups love their cars, just each in a different way. First there are the polishers. Their cars are pristine. They will use toothbrushes to get their batteries cleaned. I mean you could eat a meal off their engines. You won’t find a spec of dust on the outside, inside of their cars, and inside includes the engine and trunk.
The racers, believe in a clean and polished car, however, their main concern is POWER. They want to get the most they can from their engines. It is all about having the fastest car!

Favorite Car Song and Why

Favorite Car Song and Why
by: Sue and Chuck DeFiore
I have a number of favorites, however, my all time favorite is Hot Rod Lincoln by Commander Cody.
Since living in an extremely cold climate means taking your Corvette off the road in the winter months, a winter car is a must.
So in September we started looking for a car for winter and found a beauty, a 2 door dark green 1976 Lincoln Town Car, 5035 lbs with a nice big V-8 (460) that rode like a dream, and talk about hauling a**. I can still remember the night we picked it up. With only having the Corvette, Chuck did most of the driving. Since I hadn’t driven in a while, I told him to take it easy since I hadn’t driven in the dark for quite sometime. Well, anyone who has even driven this car knows that 30 feels like you are crawling and before you know it you are up to 50 or 60. So, yep, you guessed it, there we were on the back roads and Chuck is punching the Corvette to keep up with me. I was in heaven, with all that horsepower and car around me again. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the Corvette, but since my first car was a 2 door 1962 Chevy Belair being in a big car again put me in seventh heaven, and this one was even bigger and faster than my first one.

The Hidden Costs of Car Leases
by: Amy Metz
Be honest- are you one of those people who just loves new cars? I knew it. That’s OK, we are in the same boat. I love new cars just as much as you do. But I like not overpaying just as much if not more than you do. That’s why, when it comes to car leases, I make sure and really get to know my options and whether I should be leasing or buying my vehicles. As I’ve learned (the hard way) a few times, there are all sorts of hidden costs involved in leasing a new car. And they aren’t what you think they are. Lets look at a few of them.
1) The monthly lease payment. Did you know that there are unscrupulous car dealers out there who will blindly rip you off if you let them. That’s right. And your monthly payment might have been arbitrarily made up by one of these dealers on the spot just by looking at you and deciding how much money they should charge you. Make sure and question everything on the lease form and ask in depth questions as to why you should be paying what you are. The fine print can be your friend, use it against the car dealer to negotiate a better deal somewhere else.

Car Accident Checklist: Are You Prepared?
by: Amy Metz
I’ve got a confession to make. I’ve been in a car accident before. Granted, it wasn’t my fault at all (both my opinion and the insurance company’s opinion). However, once it happened, I realized that I should have been better prepared for the car accident the day it happened. Since I realized this, I decided to make a checklist for things to have in case of a car accident. Here we go
1) Insurance Papers. Make sure you have your insurance papers ready to give to the other party in case they need to see them. These can also come in handy to give to the Police if they arrive on the scene of the accident. In some states, having car insurance is mandatory for the operation of a motor vehicle and you can be fined if you don’t have any insurance. Make sure you insurance paperwork is in order before finding out that it is necessary to have.

Helmet saves lives. There have been a lot of misconceptions but let us contemplate which is the truth as compared to the lies. How do we gauge? Let us acknowledge its advantages.
First, it prevents or reduces the gravity of brain and facial injuries. Second, it lessens wind noise. Third, it protects the eyes from windblast and other hazardous debris. Lastly, it provides greater comfort and protection. With these advantages, why would you consider not wearing them?
The kind of helmet that gives optimum protection is that of a full-face helmet. It is recommended by manufacturers, professional riders and testing authorities. However, other kinds of helmet are also good provided they pass the DOT or SNELL testing standards since these two are the most trusted testing authorities in the United States.

Motorcycle face and eye apparel saves face. Every rider who has been hit by debris, bugs or insects, blaze of the sun can go into details on how they are benefited by said motorcycle apparel.
Windshields and sunglasses may not offer the best protection that we need. This is because debris, wind, bugs or insects may still pass behind a windshield. On the other hand, sunglasses or goggles with shatterproof lenses may not seal out the harsh wind or water from entering our eyes.
